A Buddha - Day One
After stretching and toning my canvas, I divided the picture plane into sections by making lines from corner to corner and then placing horizontal and vertical lines from the center of the X. I wanted the bottom of the breast bone to be the center of the picture - for aesthetic and philosophical reasons. After drawing the figure in with vine charcoal, I began laying in the darks with a thin layer of burnt umber. This picture is 36" x 48".

A Buddha - Day Two
I layed in the background, with a palette knife and began working on the middle tones in the figure. I did sneak in a few lights - technically, so I'd have something to key off of, but truthfully, because I can't wait until the end to put the light in. I have no patience. |
A Buddha - Day Three
Today, I focused mainly on the hat, the arm and the facial features. I will continue to refine those - as I will with the rest of the figure. Actually, from here on out, I will simply be refining my drawing and working on color and value. |
